Background
|
I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I moved to North Carolina a little over 15 years ago. I love the beach but have grown to love the mountains equally so. I love reading, writing and spending time with family and friends. I come from a large family of 4 brothers and four sisters. I am an aunt, a sister, a friend, step mother, wife, a daughter and most importantly a teacher. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was in fourth grade. I had a teacher who made a huge impact on my life and was supportive during a difficult time. She pushed me to work harder and achieve more than I ever thought possible. I hope to be that person in the life of my scholars. I want to push them to reach their full potential and achieve heights they didn't know they could. I think learning should be hands on and interactive and involve all of us learning together. I do not like to stand up in front of the class and lecture for hours, even adults don't like that. I want my students sharing with me and the class their thoughts, strategies, and ideas and I want to incorporate this in every lesson. I do not think that reading, writing, math, science, and social studies always have to be separate. Scholars can integrate these and sometimes do a little of all of this in one lesson. I want to set the bar high for my scholars and let them know that I believe in each and every one of them and together we will have an awesome year.
